How much does window replacement cost? What the price covers
Collect quotes from three companies and you will struggle to compare them: one prices the window alone, another includes installation, a third adds the sill. Here is what the bill is actually made of.
- Free measuring
- Free delivery
- Free installation
- Free disposal of the old window
In business since 1997. The quote is free.
What makes up the price
Replacing a window is not one purchase but six separate jobs. Almost every quote contains them all; the only question is whether they are in the figure you were given or turn up later.
- The window itself: frame profile, glass unit and hardware.
- Removing the old window.
- Fitting the new one: fixings, foam and sealing the joints.
- The window sill on the inside.
- The exterior flashing: the metal strip outside that carries rainwater away.
- Interior finishing around the opening, and disposal of the old window.
An advertised price "from €199" almost always covers the first item only. The other five are paid for separately, and together they often cost as much as the window.
Why quotes are so hard to compare
A seller does not have to show a breakdown. If a quote is one line and one total, ask directly: is removal included, is the sill included, is the flashing included, and who takes the old window away? Four questions, and two quotes out of three change.
The second thing to ask is whether the price includes VAT. For a private customer that is a 24% difference, which is noticeable on a thousand-euro job.
What affects the price of the window itself
- Size. A 600 × 630 mm window and a 1400 × 1400 mm window use very different amounts of profile, glass and hardware.
- The number of sashes and how many of them open. A fixed pane is cheaper than an opening one because it has no hardware.
- Double or triple glazing. Triple glazed costs more but keeps out more cold and noise.
- Colour. White is the standard; a woodgrain finish or a RAL colour adds to the price.
- Non-standard shapes. Arches, trapezoids and round windows are priced individually.
How we do it
We publish our prices on the website, and every one of them already includes all six items: the window, installation, PVC sill, exterior flashing, interior finishing and disposal of the old window. A two-part window with one opening sash costs €480 double glazed or €580 triple glazed. A two-part window with both sashes opening is €550 or €650. A balcony unit, meaning the door and window together, is €650 or €750.
The exact figure is still worked out after measuring: openings in a panel apartment block, a Stalin-era building and a private house all differ, and you cannot see that in advance. But you know the order of magnitude before anyone visits.
Measuring, delivery and disposal of the old window are free. Call +372 5555 1682 or use the form on the website.
